Blu-ray Releases, October

With Fall firmly upon us, now’s a great time to take a look at what’s coming your way during the month of October in terms of Blu-ray releases. Both die-hard and casual film fans alike will be quite pleased with the offerings this month.
We’ll get things started with a look at some of the recent theatrical offerings. These include Obvious Child (not reviewed); the documentary Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon (not reviewed); A Million Ways to Die in the West (**); Million Dollar Arm (not reviewed); Edge of Tomorrow (***); Begin Again (** ½); Sex Tape (not reviewed); The Purge: Anarchy (**); Mr. Peabody and Sherman (not reviewed); X-Men: Days of Future Passed (***); Snowpiercer (***); Wish I Was Here (not reviewed) and Deliver Us From Evil (not reviewed).
Several collections worth mentioning are being released during the month. Due to the sheer number of titles I won’t try and rate these individually but they include a Chuck Norris Total Attack Pack, The Vincent Price Collection 2, a Kevin Costner Collection, a Steven Spielberg Director’s Collection, which includes most of his Universal Studios output and, last but not least, an Ice Age Complete Collection.
Criterion will be busying itself with releases of several special editions as is their monthly custom. These include the Orson Welles’ narrated documentary, F For Fake (***); the 1988 version of The Vanishing (***); My Darling Clementine (not reviewed) and La Dolce Vita (***).
Quite a number of horror related titles will be issued during the month. These include a special edition of Squirm (***); a director’s cut of Nightbreed (***); The Believers (**); The First Power (**); The Faculty (**); a double feature of Tales From the Crypt/Vault of Horror (*** both); the 1988 version of The Blob (***); Jennifer (not reviewed) and Audrey Rose (** ½).
Not in any particular order, the month will also see a 10th anniversary edition of Sideways (****)as well as a 30th anniversary edition of The Never Ending Story (***).
Also, Legally Blonde 1 and 2 (** both); The King and I (***); Oklahoma (**); Sleeping Beauty (***); Desperately Seeking Susan (***); The China Syndrome (*** ½); Under Fire (not reviewed); Fedora (***); Roger and Me (*** ½); All Dogs Go to Heaven 1 and 2 (** ½ both); Billion Dollar Brain (not reviewed); Holiday Inn (** ½); White Christmas (** ½); Vanilla Sky (**); The Last Supper (***); Yankee Doodle Dandy (***); Possessed (1947) (not reviewed); Gorky Park (***); Kingdom of Heaven (not reviewed); True Confessions (** ½) and Mullholland Falls (** ½).
