A Very Harey Christmas
December 24, 2015
T’was the night before Christmas, when all through the burrow
Not a creature was stirring, they dared not
Itsy-bitsy stockings were strung all over the den
In hopes that St. Cotton Tail would be hopping in
Bunches of bunnies were snuggled warm in their beds
While visions of baby carrots danced in their heads
And me in my footie jammies and knitted nightcap
Had just turned down the lights for a bit of a nap
When outside the window there arose such a roar
I sprang from my snooze and dashed to the door
Reaching the window I peered through the blind
In a bit of a snit, I wasn’t sure what I’d find
It had snowed just enough to brighten the ground
Presenting a pristine appeal to all things around
When what to my unbelieving eyes do I spot
A sleigh with six teeny
bunnies going hop,
A magnificent white hare sat holding the reins
St. Cotton Tail was surely a sight to be seen
Swiftly the sleigh bounced more closely into view
As he called out to his team, lined up two
Now, Floppy! Now, Flossy! Now, Sugar and Spice!
On, Peter! On, Bugsy! On, Spritzer and Splice!
To the edge of the forest, to the rabbit burrow go!
Hop away! Hop away! Hop away to the hole!
He was dressed in fine satin, from his brow
to his paws
His red coat immaculate, freshly pressed too, I saw
A sack full of veggie treats he wielded with ease
Bounding from the sleigh like leaves on a breeze
His dark eyes did sparkle! And twitch did his whiskers!
His sleigh was quite mighty! And fast, I’d bet my nickers!
His soft fur glistened against the new fallen snow
Flashing a brilliant smile his teeth almost glowed
Robust was he, yet a jolly ol’ hare indeed
I giggled to see him hop along at great speed
Looking back, he winked twice and nodded his hat
As his cotton tail wiggled, all was well, I knew that
He made nary a noise, dashing straight to the den
Filling each tiny hung
stocking, his focus on them
Finished, he gently touched his paw to his nose
Gathering his warren as the little hares dozed
Hopping into the driver’s seat, he winked once more
Up and down they went, as I watched from the door
Yet, I heard him exclaim as they hopped out of sight
“Merry Christmas to all, and to all hares a good-night!”
Merry Christmas everyone! Be joyous, be safe, be grateful, be blessed and most importantly be extraordinary!
Love, blessings and prayers for all of you as you keep the spirit of Christmas going all year, every year.
