Christmas Miracle

December 17, 2015

The car won’t start, it’s most certainly croaked
My budget is permanently stalled on broke
I couldn’t even shop for presents this year
The twins will be so
disappointed, I fear

Bills are overdue, the pile grows deep
Trying to keep up, I’m
losing sleep
No charging of gifts on
plastic cards
“Maxed out” is the reason I work so hard

There has to be some give and take
Less stress, is more of what I need for their sake
Yikes! I forgot about making Christmas dinner, too
Rice and beans the cupboard holds, what shall I do

We have no wreath, we have no tree
There are no candles to light and see
From the road as cars pass by our way
What will they think, what will they say?

Our neighbors’ homes are lit so brightly
Blazing icicles glow under eves nightly
Warmth and cheer up and down the street
Homes offering a Merry Christmas greet

I promised a baby doll for beautiful Lilly
And a red firetruck for
handsome Billy
Yet broken promises
cannot be kept,
I silently told myself as I softly wept

A Christmas miracle is needed this moment
Their father’s passing was such torment
Trying so hard to make everything right
All I have left are prayers this night
Suddenly the doorbell chimed
I dried my eyes quickly
as I sighed
Who’d come calling at
this late hour
Opening the door, on the step stood my neighbor

Pardon our intrusion; we noticed you didn’t have
a tree
No, I-I couldn’t… Not to worry dear, we had three
So we brought one for the little tykes’ Christmas morn
Mary and Matt brought our best ornaments to adorn

At first I thought it was a pleasant dream
As neighbors paraded by in a constant stream
Of candles, ornaments, gifts and colorful lights
Some even carried food and sugary delights

Men busied themselves erecting the fir
While ladies merrily marched by in a blur
Elated by the blessed events in my home
I realized in Spirit, we are never alone

Lighting the tree, ornaments were hung
By neighborhood teens as they softly sung
Carols while gently placing tinsel on boughs
Reflecting the blinking lights, softly now

A vision of lovingkindness before my eyes
Extraordinary people had changed our lives
Selflessly they gave a Christmas miracle of love
Topping the tree with a pure white dove

My children would wake on Christmas Day
In their memories, hearing their father say
“Remember the reason for the season and pray
For others to know that
giving is receiving
on this
special day.”

Be extraordinary! The greatest gift you can give is to do something selfless for someone else. We all know someone who will be alone this year; who lost a loved one just before the holidays now, or in the past; whose family is unable to visit; who has been out of work with young children to feed; or who has been ill. Friends the list of life’s tribulations can be a long one. Reach out to each other, be kind and offer love. Be a Christmas miracle for someone…for a family. Not only will it bring joy to their hearts but it will flood yours forever with lovingkindness. Let’s not leave anyone alone this year. Remember those who are less fortunate and give the greatest gift of all…an act of lovingkindness. From my family to yours sending each of you prayers of comfort and blessings…today, tomorrow and always. Love, hugs and smiles…
