SALT

RAMONA & BEEZUS

July 29, 2010

SALT

I swear, sometimes I feel so old when I think of things I actually remember - like the actual Cold War. Yes, I know, it seems funny, but we all get that feeling at some point in life, I promise you. If you really think about how simpler things were back in the day, then you realize how possible the events of this movie are. Now, setting my paranoia aside, let’s discuss the movie. Oh how I love a movie with lots of great action coupled with twists and turns. Angelina Jolie, Liev Schreiber and Chiwetal Ejiofor keep things interesting and uncertain almost to the end. If you’re a big Jolie fan - then she delivers her usual (and hot) action packed performance - whatever race or gender she prefers at the time. And, of course, she makes it all look so easy. This is a must see for all action/adventure lovers - enjoy! - CLAM

What we have here is an action/thriller spy-flick, that reminds us what summer blockbusters are all about. Angelina Jolie plays Evelyn Salt (thus the films title, duh), who is accused of being a KGB sleeper agent, and goes on the run to try to clear her name. Jolie tackles one impossible scenario after another, staying in constant motion. Cast all logical thinking aside because theres no time to think anyway. This movie is non-stop action from the word go and picks up momentun along the way, constantly one-uping itself. On an interesting side note Tom Cruise was initially secured for the lead, the script was ultimately rewritten for Jolie; gee I wonder why? Go see if you can figure it out- it’s well worth the price of admission to escape the summer heat. - CHAINSAW

RAMONA AND BEEZUS

Tales of misfit girlhood pulled from the pages of the Newbury Award-winning book series by Beverly Cleary. The movie takes bits and pieces of all the “Ramona” books and compiles them into a family friendly film. It’s a laid back, imagination filled kid movie. Parents may enjoy the break of getting to sit through a movie with their kids that doesn’t involve vampires or wizards.

It also won’t require a trip to the mall afterwards to buy the toys or clothing line. Nothing spectacular unless you’re a fan of the book series, but a good way to kill some time with the kids on a slow day before summer’s end. - CHAINSAW
