Hickory – Join us on Monday, December 3, at 6pm at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library for an overview (free) of the local food system in Catawba County. In 2013, Catawba County developed the Farm, Food and Sustainability Plan to enhance agricultural development, recruit young farmers and help farms transitioning through inheritance and diversification. This led to a “Farm to Fork” initiative with the goal of linking local producers to markets, distributors and restaurants.
Cooperative Extension has worked on this plan by focusing on food production education, marketing of local farm products and community outreach. April Vigardt, Local Foods Extension Agent at the Cooperative Extension, will discuss these different programs and how the community can get involved in forming a more resilient local food system. The Local Foods in Catawba County presentation is free and open to the public. No registration is required. For more information, please call 828-304-0500 ext. 7235. Patrick Beaver Memorial Library is located at 375 3rd Street NE on the SALT Block.
