Hickory – In a rare “double header,” February’s Poetry Hickory will feature two renowned authors: Al Maginnes of Raleigh and Michael Gaspeny of Greensboro.
Between the two of them, Maginnes and Gaspeny have authored more than a dozen books and won about the same number of prestigious awards for their writing, including the Randall Jarrell Poetry Award, the O.Henry Short Story Contest, and the Jacar Press Poetry Award.
Both have been college instructors for decades and worked as reporters and columnists as well.
Gaspeny’s newest book is “Flight Manual: New and Selected Poems,” and Maginnes’ is “Sleeping Through the Graveyard Shift.”
Everything starts at 6:15 at Taste Full Beans Coffeehouse in downtown Hickory, and the Open Mic will follow the featured readers.
