Hickory – Robert “Tatum” Terry, the award-winning co-star of Kinky Boots, is taking on a new role at the Hickory Community Theatre. He is making his directing debut with the upcoming production of The Hot Wing King. This Pulitzer prize winning play will take the stage in the Jeffers Theatre on January 24, 2025 and continue through February 8.
Terry, who got his theatre training at the American Music and Dance Academy (AMDA) in NYC, was last seen on the Pamela Livingstone stage as Lola in Kinky Boots, in June of 2023. His performance earned him the 2023 HCT Kay award for Outstanding Performer in a Musical. He made his HCT debut in the 2019 production of Hair in 2019 and was most recently seen in The Rocky Horror Show with Just Two Guys Productions.
“I am so grateful for this opportunity and I thank Eric Seale [HCT Artistic Director] for his confidence in me and his mentorship,” Terry said. “The Hot Wing King is an amazing play that resonates so much with my personal experiences.”
The Hot Wing King is a 2020 American comedy-drama play by writer Katori Hall. The play follows Cordell Crutchfield, his boyfriend, and their friends in Memphis, Tennessee preparing their culinary entry for the annual “Hot Wang Festival”. Cordell knows he has the wings that’ll make him king. Supported by his beau, Dwayne, and their culinary clique, The New Wing Order, Cordell is marinating and firing up his frying pan in a bid to reclaim the crispy crown.
Performances of The Hot Wing King will run from Friday, January 24 through February 8, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2:30pm. There will be an additional performance on Thursday, February 6 at 7:30pm. This show is recommended for adult audiences due to profanity.
