Hickory – The Hickory Community Theatre is proud to host Out There Theatre Co. for their inaugural production, Heathers the Musical. Performances will be February 14 through 16 in the Jeffers Theatre.
Heathers the Musical is based on the 1988 cult classic film of the same name, Heathers is the story of Veronica Sawyer, a senior at the fictional Westerberg High. Veronica longs to be cool like the clique of it-girls that runs Westerberg: the unaffected, unattainable Heathers. Unfortunately, in addition to awesome levels of popularity, the Heathers are also cruel, choosing to mock and bully their kingdom into submission. When Veronica uses her skills as a forger to get the Heathers out of detention, she impresses their leader Heather Chandler- so much so that they agree to let her into their exclusive club. At first Veronica is thrilled-until she finds out that being one of the Heathers means bullying the same kids she used to call friends. Things take a dark turn, and the Heathers get there just desserts, when Veronica finds herself attracted to a mysterious newcomer at school named Jason Dean.
Out There theatre Co. is a production company founded in 2024 with the mission to put on shows that are a little more “Out There”. These may be shows that aren’t seen on stage often, or ones that tackle issues that some people find to be too much. Out There is a queer founded production company started by two friends, Ethan Fite and Sarah Deutsch. It started out as a “what if?” one night while sitting out by a fire and blossomed into a full blown passion project for the two. Out There Theatre Co. may be a new company but it is backed by years of love and dedication to theatre and they can’t wait to see what the future brings next.
The talented, local cast is led by Jenni Canterbury as Heather McNamara, Autumn Dagenhardt as Heather Duke, Sarah Deutsch as Veronica, Lindsey Litka-Montes as Heather Chandler, Matty Montes as Jason “JD” Dean, and Kamryn Pasco as Martha Dunnstock. The teachers, parents and students are played by Emma Beneck, Dylan Day, Drew Jarnac, Rachael Morris, Matt Morris, Emma Shell and Alex Swift.
The production is directed by Ethan Fite, musical direction is by Ash Klutz, choreography is by Holley Dagenhardt and Pam Farnsworth is stage manager.
