Edgar Allan Poe’s “Nightfall” as performed by Old Colony Players- October 16, 17, and 18 at 7:30 pm & October 19 2:30 pm
Edgar Allan Poe stands alone in the flickering darkness of his mind, trying desperately to convince himself – and the audience – that he is not mad. The spell he weaves brings us a highly theatrical adaptation of four tales Poe himself considered his best “The Raven”, “The Fall of the House of Usher”, “The Pit and the Pendulum”, and “The Tell-Tale Heart”.

Valdese Rotary First Annual Costume Bash – October 25 6:30pm-9:30pm
Get ready to put on your best costume and join us for an unforgettable night of fun on October 25th at the Waldensian Heritage Event Center! Whether you’re a fairy princess, a spooky ghoul, or something totally unique, this is your chance to show off your creativity and celebrate with friends — all for a great cause!

What to Expect: Music & Dancing to keep the night lively, Delicious Food & Entertainment, Costume Contest with prizes, Live Auction & Raffle.

Twilight Tales on the Trail- October 30
An evening of legends, lore, and storytelling under the autumn sky. Friends of the Valdese Rec, Old Colony Players, Valdese Rec Dept. and Burke River Trail Association invite you to a new fall tradition! Stroll less than a mile along the trail and pause at five lantern-lit stations where storytellers will share chilling classics, eerie folklore, and local legends—including a tale from Edgar Allan Poe. This family-friendly event is especially perfect for teens.

6:00 Gather – hot apple cider, build-your-own treat bags, and free flashlights for the first 50 guests
6:30 Tales Begin – five stops, five stories under lantern light 7:30 Marshmallow Roast – a sweet ending by the fire

1st Annual Boos & Birdies: A Haunted Golf Classic for Blue Santa- October 24 11:30- Until?
Presented by the Valdese Police Department and the Waldensian Presbyterian Church- Join us for a spooky golf tournament benefiting our community’s children through the Blue Santa Program! Tee off time at 1:00 P.M. at the Silver Creek Gold Club in Morganton. Lunch provided and prizes! Hole in one prize is a NEW CAR from Paramount Ford Hyundai of Valdese! 4 Player Captain’s Choice-$300 a team! Registration deadline Tuesday October 21, 2025 by 5:00 PM.

Bark Side Pet Grooming Presents The Furrocious Pet Costume Contest: October 1-31
It’s time to get out the treats and bribe your pet into their Halloween costume! The Furrocious Pet Costume is here! Kindly sponsored by Bark Side Pet Grooming, this popular social media contest gives pet parents an opportunity to submit a scary good photo of their fur baby in costume! Once it is posted to the Town of Valdese Facebook page, encourage friends & family to “vote” for the photo by liking it! The photos with the most votes will win some pawesome prizes from Bark Side Pet Grooming! Email submissions to asouth@valdesenc.gov October 1-31. Downtown Business Pumpkin Decorating Contest- October 27-31
Keep your eyes peeled for Valdese businesses to display a decorated pumpkin October 27-31 then cast your vote on Town of Valdes Facebook page for your favorite! Winning businesses earn cash prizes, local media/social coverage, and BRAGGING RIGHTS!

Valdese Treats in the Streets- October 31 4-6 pm
The annual Valdese “Treats in the Streets” will be held on October 31st beginning at 4:00pm in the downtown area. Every year for Halloween, the Valdese Merchants partners with the Town of Valdese to hold this community event. Local merchants hand out candy from 4:00pm until 6:00pm. Candy goes fast so come early and your trick or treater will not be disappointed. A special performance will be presented on Main Street in front of the Town Parking Lot by the Silver Sneakers Dancers and Dance Tyme Dancers. A special guest will be mingling with the attendees to choose the best ten costumes! Best costume winners will be presented with a special trophy or medal.
