Valdese, NC – Rock School Arts Foundation presents Brush & Palette Club, Anne Thompson, and Eugenia Welch. Exhibitions open on Friday, June 12 and run through Friday, July 10, 2026 in the Foundation’s galleries located inside the Old Rock School in Valdese, NC.
Artists’ Reception will be on Sunday, June 14 from 2-4pm.

The Brush & Palette Art Club in Lenoir, NC is a juried group of fine artists that have been active for more than 50 years. They provide space for women to network, exhibit, and enjoy the company of other artists. The club’s purpose is to be an organized group of actively painting , drawing, and sculpting artists who support each other and the local artists, especially the young and upcoming.
The members work with different mediums: Oils, acrylics, collages, mixed media, pastel, mosaic. And have diverse styles like: Classic, abstract, folk art and pottery.
Anne Thompson has been doing photography since the 1970’s when she began taking pictures as a photo stringer for the News Herald and the Charlotte Observer.
Anne was working full time as a nurse, so she didn’t do much photography from about 1980 until she began again as a stringer for the News Herald in 2014 until 2023. Anne has also done some work for The Paper.
Eugenia Welch has been married to Dr. Carl Welch, for sixty-three years. They have lived fifty-eight years in Hickory, North Carolina. She has two daughters, Gena Small and Twila Miles, along with seven grandchildren and one great grandson.
Using mainly oil and acrylic mediums Eugenia paints what inspires her from experiences, memories, and nature. She finds that God gives to her serendipities, unexpected surprises, that often-become subjects to paint.
For the last two years Eugenia has been taught and mentored by Dr, Robert Winter. He has inspired her to draw, see the ambience of light, to catch the essence of the subject, to observe closely, and to experience the joy and wonder of God given creativity.
