NOW IN THEATERS:
Toy Story 5 – Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang of toys return in another installment of the ever-popular series. This time the film works in a topical plot line about the dangers of technology as illustrated by the introduction of a new tablet device named Lilypad.

NEW TO STREAMING:
Michael (2026) (** ½) The hugely successful biopic of Michael Jackson is now available digitally for home viewing. The film features a superb performance by the subject’s nephew in the lead role. Unfortunately, the film plays out as something of a filmed Wikipedia page entry, offering no creative insights or real dramatic conflicts. Still, those who wish to bask in the subject’s music will not be disappointed and will enjoy the recreations of some of the subject’s less controversial moments in his career.
Those looking to delve deeper into the dark side of Michael Jackson’s life may be interested in the new three-part Netflix series, Michael Jackson: The Verdict, which takes an in depth look at the molestation allegations lodged against the singer.
NEW TO DISC:
Shout Factory:
What Dreams May Come (1998) The adaptation of the Richard Matheson fantasy novel, starring Robin Williams, makes its 4K debut this week. New bonus materials are included along with archival materials.
The label is offering yet another steelbook repackaging with a 4K rerelease of James Gunn’s Slither (2006).
The Grey (2012), featuring Liam Neeson’s turn as a stranded oil rig worker fending off wolves in the wilderness, also gets a 4K upgrade this week. A few new extras are included as well.
Criterion:
Two of cult director John Waters’ films get the 4K treatment from the label this week. They are Desperate Living (1977) and Hairspray (1988) and both include a combination of archival and new bonus features.
Sony:
The label is issuing two of Adam Sandler’s films on 4K this week as well. They are the romantic comedy, 50 First Dates (2004) and the comedy/fantasy, Click (2006). Both include archival bonus materials.
Kino:
The label is issuing on Blu Ray the comedy, Major Payne (1995), along with a new 4K upgrade of the Clint Eastwood western, Hang Em High (1968) and a Blu Ray release of the Fred MacMurray starring western, The Texas Rangers (1936). New commentaries are included on these releases.
Lionsgate:
The Last Showgirl (2025) gets a Blu Ray release this week. Pamela Anderson stars, in a well-reviewed turn, as the character of the film’s title who must chart her next life path after her show closes abruptly.
