Bill Belichick continues to maintain that he has everything under control with the North Carolina Tar Heel football program. From the outside looking in, it may just come down to what the definition of ‘control’ is.
A few days after general manager Michael Lombardi resigned amid a university investigation into his conduct and the football program, Belichick addressed the media. He said all the right things without answering any questions about his program that is being investigated. Belichick spoke of high standards and the program’s code of conduct.
Belichick’s son, Steve, remains on medical leave from his role as the team’s defensive coordinator. No further details have been provided on his situation since Bill Belichick announced on Aug. 6 his son was away from the program.

Rumors have been coming out of Chapel Hill for the past month about Lombardi and Belichick’s son. More rumors than stories of UNC winning it’s season opener.
There have also been news stories about Belichick’s contract. It states he is required to adhere to UNC’s policies, along with the “regulations and rules that apply to this position.” It also requires him to “promote an atmosphere of compliance” and report any potential violations.
If the investigation leads to a coaching change and the school decides to fire Belichick for cause, the university wouldn’t have to pay out anything. If the school were to fire him without cause, it would owe Belichick what he was set to earn through Dec. 31, 2027 ($10 million).
NFL Starting Up
The NFL season began last night with a Super Bowl matchup between Seattle and New England. Tonight, Thursday, the Los Angeles Rams meet the San Francisco 49ers.
The Rams are heavy favorites to advance and win the 2027 Super Bowl. They were already favored before last week’s signing of Aaron Donald.
I did some digging and learned that putting hard earned cash on the Rams may not be the thing to do.
In the past 30 seasons, there have been 20 instances of the preseason Super Bowl favorite having odds of +500 or better entering a season, Those short favorites have gone 0-for-20 … never winning the Super Bowl. What are the Rams odds you ask?
+500.
