Hickory – The Hickory Community Theatre will be kicking off their 75th anniversary season with the hilarious musical satire, A GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER. Performances begin on Friday, August 25 and continue through Saturday, September 16.
The story follows young Monty Navarro, the distant heir to a family fortune who sets out to speed up the line of succession by using a great deal of charm… and a dash of murder. When low-born, destitute Monty finds out that he’s eighth in line for an earldom in the lofty D’Ysquith family, he figures his chances of outliving his predecessors are slight and sets off down a far more ghoulish path. Can he knock off his unsuspecting relatives without being caught and become the ninth Earl of Highhurst? And what of love? Because murder isn’t the only thing on Monty’s mind.
The Hickory Community Theatre’s production features a familiar face in the role of Monty, the charming and likeable Justin Wilson. He most recently entertained audiences as the singing, dancing Gangster #2 in THE DROWSY CHAPERONE, followed by the hapless techie, Trevor in THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG. Wilson made his HCT debut in 2021 as Robin in SOMETHING ROTTEN, for which he received the Kay Award for Outstanding Featured Actor. When not on stage this Lincolnton resident is a server at the Olde Hickory Station.
“I love this show and its music,” Wilson says. “I have been listening to it for years and have dreamed of getting to play Monty.”
Performances will run August 25 through September 16; Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm, Sundays (Sept. 3 and 10) at 2:30pm and Thursday, September 14 at 7:30pm.
Tickets for all performances are $16 for adults and $10 for youth and students. For tickets visit hickorytheatre.org or call the box office at 828-328-2283. The production is rated PG and contains mature themes that may not be suitable for younger children.
