Hickory – Catawba Valley audiences are in for a treat when Rotarian Idol All Stars brings back two popular winners from just last year as a part of the ten contestant line-up. Sara King, who finished first and Kendra Kitler, who finished third, will both compete in the May 17 star-studded event.
“I’ve been singing my entire life,” says King, “but didn’t take it seriously until I was around 16.” The Asheville native identifies Hayley Williams and Demi Lovato as her biggest musical influences.
King has lived in the Catawba Valley for the past 17 years. She is employed as the Lead Customer Service Associate at the Guitar Center. In her spare time, she loves working in her Dad’s recording studio, reading her favorite books, and challenging her younger sister to video games.
Kendra Kitler started singing in church at the tender age of 5. “My Dad has always been my biggest musical influence,” she notes. “I try to take every opportunity I can to sing” so Kitler responded to the invitation to compete again. “I love being on stage and I also enjoy meeting all the other contestants.”
Today, Kitler is married to Michael Kitler and has three sons, Michael, age 10, Jason, age 8 and Emmet, age 6. She loves traveling and seeing new places. Nashville is a favorite city to visit “because of all the history as well as the future of music,” she says. She also enjoys camping, hunting, fishing and kayaking.
The Tenth Anniversary All Stars Rotarian Idol is set for Friday May 17 at 7pm at PE Monroe Auditorium. Ten winners from the past years will compete for cash prizes. Rotarian Idol is the signature fundraiser of the Rotary Club of Hickory. It gives the community, through the Rotary Club, the ability to impact the lives of people here and across the globe. Funds raised go to support local educational programs such as the Imagination Library, college scholarships and Teacher of the Year awards, as well as humanitarian and educational projects around the world.
