Hudson, NC – Auditions for the Town of Hudson and HUB Station production of the upcoming fall musical, “My Fair Lady,” will be held in the auditorium of the HUB Station, 145 Cedar Valley Road in Hudson on Monday and Tuesday, August 5th and 6th at 7 o’clock PM. The show will perform Thursday, Friday and Saturday, October 10th, 11th, 12th and 17th, 18th and 19th.
Described as the “Perfect American Musical” and the “Quintessential American Musical,” and set in London in 1912, “My Fair Lady,” is based on George Bernard Shaw’s Play, “Pygmalion.” It tells the story of Cockney flower girl, Eliza Doolittle, as she becomes the object of a bet between two renowned linguists, Colonel Pickering and Professor Henry Higgins. Higgins says he can teach the girl to speak proper English, to the point that she can fool anyone and be passed off as English nobility.
This renowned Lerner and Loewe musical features such songs as “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly,” “The Rain in Spain,” “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “On the Street Where You Live,” “You Did It,” “Get Me to the Church On Time” and “I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face.”
The roles of Henry Higgins and Eliza Doolittle have been cast. Roles remain for Colonel Pickering, Albert Doolittle, Freddy Eynsford-Hill, Mrs. Eynsford-Hill, Professor Zoltan Karpathy, Mrs. Higgins, Bartender, Harry, Jamie, Mrs. Pearce, Mrs. Hopkins, buskers, people of the street, servants, maids, housekeepers, butlers, footmen, stewards, flower girls, lords and ladies, chorus members and more; there are both speaking and non-speaking roles, and dancing roles. If you have any interest in performing onstage or working backstage, please attend one or both of the auditions. There is something for everyone, young, old, experienced, newcomer.
Director Keith Smith says this promises to be one of the largest, if not the largest musical ever staged at the HUB Station, in terms of scope, scale, range and size. Smith says the theatre has been seeking rights to produce the show for about 6 years, but it was unavailable due to a large-scale professional national tour, interrupted by Covid, then resumed. Hudson was one of the first theatres to acquire rights following the tour. This will be the 36th theatre production at the HUB Station.
Please prepare a song for your audition. Accompaniment will be provided. Please bring your sheet music. Wear loose fitting clothing and closed toe shoes to go through some dance moves. Cold reading will be from the script. For further information, call Director Keith Smith at Hudson Town Offices, (828) 728-8272.
