Newton – Auditions are set for The Green Room’s 2019 production of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Based on the Mark Twain classic, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is the irresistible story of a fourteen-year-old boy growing up in the heartland of America. Filled with foot-stomping, toe-tapping songs by Don Schlitz (“The Gambler”) and with a book by Ken Ludwig, this musical adventure is a tale of thrilling escapes, comedy, and inspiration for the whole family.
Mark your calendar for January 7 or 8, 2019 at 7:00 to come audition. You do not need to attend both dates. There are roles in Tom Sawyer that are available for males and females ages 12 and up.
Please prepare a song (about 16 bars) from the show or in the same style of the show. Please bring sheet music for the accompanist. A cappella auditions are discouraged. Your audition song should showcase your individual abilities and not mimic another’s performance. Be prepared to have fun!
You must be available for all performances which are scheduled for March 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, and 24, 2019. Please bring your list of rehearsal conflicts with you. You MUST be able to attend all of tech week (the week before the show opens), unless in rare emergency cases an exception is approved before being cast by the director.
Wear comfortable clothing for the dance/movement portion of the audition. Please wear hard-soled shoes. Flip flops or open-toed shoes are not permitted. Being able to dance is not a requirement, but may help determine casting. You may be asked to do a cold reading from the script.
All auditions will be held at the Old Post Office Playhouse located at 10 South Main Avenue, Newton, NC 28658. Please enter at the lower level door at the back of the building (on South Ashe Avenue). Questions? Please call the theatre at (828) 464-6583 or visit: www.thegreenroomtheatre.org.
