Hickory – Michael Beadle, author of 3 collections of poetry, Touring Writer in Residence for NC Schools, and Chair of the Gilbert Chappell Distinguished Poets Series for the NC Poetry Society will teach a workshop on performing poetry at the August 8 Poetry Hickory at Taste Full Beans Coffeehouse in downtown Hickory. The workshop begins at 5:30 and is followed by a reading by Beadle and an Open Mic. Registration for the workshop is limited to 12 participants and costs $10 each.
Beadle’s workshop will help poets bring more energy and confidence to their readings, get over stage jitters, and make the most of their poetry presentations. For nearly 20 years, Beadle has performed original, contemporary, and classical poetry at coffeehouses, restaurants, schools, churches, festivals, and even a zoo and a dude ranch.
Beadle, tells poets, “Whether it’s an open mic night, poetry slam, or bookstore reading, you can develop skills for understanding your audience, presenting with poise, and delivering with gusto.” Participants should bring a poem they would like to practice reading or presenting.
