Candidate Forum in Newton On Thursday, January 29Newton, NC – The League of Women Voters of Catawba Valley (LWVCV) announces a Candidate Forum on Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 6:00 PM-7:30 PM at the Newton Public Library, 115 W. C Street in Newton.

The forum is sponsored by LWVCV. The event is free and open to the public.

All seven Republican candidates for Catawba County Commissioner in the March 3 Primary election have been invited to participate in the January 29 forum.

The full list of candidates is available on the county Board of Elections website  (https://catawbacountync.gov/site/assets/files/11076/cont_cand_rpt_3-primary-rep.pdf).

(There are only three candidates running in the Democratic Party for this race, so they all advance directly to the general election. As a result, this forum will focus solely on the Republican primary candidates.)

The format for the forum is question-and-answer. Written questions will be solicited from the audience at the event. The public can also email questions by January 23 by following the instructions here.

As seating at the venue is limited, the Forum will also be livestreamed on the LWVCV website (http://lwvcv.org/). A recording of the event will also be posted there in the days following the Forum.

In the event of bad weather, the snow date for this event is Saturday, January 31 from 10:30 AM-12:00 PM at the same location—the library in Newton. Check the LWVCV website and the League’s Facebook page if the weather is questionable.
