Hickory – Prepare to take to the skies in CSC’s latest featured exhibit! Catawba Science Center is thrilled to announce it has partnered with the Hickory Aviation Museum to bring you an exciting hands-on exhibit, Future of Flight: Drones, Design, & More!
Located in CSC’s Carpenter Hall in the North Lobby, Future of Flight features a 35 ft long Boeing A160 Hummingbird surveillance drone and several other pieces on loan from the Hickory Aviation Museum. Guests can see the inner workings of a jet turbine engine, ejection seats, and more! Get an up close look at how far we’ve come from the days of the Wright brothers, and a look at where the future of flight is headed!
Also located in the exhibit, is a paper airplane creation and launch station where guests can create their paper airplane models and launch them at targets, and a wind tunnel that lifts parachutes and scarfs up, up, and away! A drone test cage is available for guests to fly mini drones with the help of CSC Staff and volunteers. Visit www.CatawbaScience.org for the drone test cage demo times.
The cost to visit Future of Flight is free to CSC Members and included in general admission for non-members. This exhibit is sponsored by Shurtape inc, von Drehle Corporation, the City of Hickory, and the Hickory “Hop.” The Future of Flight will be on display through spring of 2020.
