Wilkesboro, NC – Registration is underway for the Fourth Annual Chad Lovette Memorial 5k and 10k Trail Run, which will take place on Saturday morning, September 21 at Cub Creek Park in downtown Wilkesboro. Runners who register by September 3 will receive a t-shirt and patch commemorating the trail run. For those running competitively, the event is being professionally chip timed by Racing Toes, Inc. All proceeds from the race will benefit the American Cancer Society. Carolina in the Fall Music & Food Festival is again hosting the Annual Chad Lovette Memorial Trail Run.
“The park is a beautiful setting to spend the morning out in nature. If you are not a runner, still plan to come out and walk the trails,” said Daniel Isom, who organizes the trail run.
Check-in for the trail run begins at 7 a.m.; the event will begin promptly at 8 a.m. Parking is located at 200 S. Bridge Street in Wilkesboro. For more information about registering for the competition and prizes, visit www.carolinainthefall.org and select the “Get Involved” button.
“The festival is very thankful to host this benefit. With the help of over 500 participants over the last three years, we have raised $23,000 to help the American Cancer Society in their effort to find a cure,” said Daniel Isom, who organizes the trail run. “The trail run is named to remember and honor Chad Lovette, a talented singer/songwriter who performed at Carolina in the Fall before cancer ended his life much too young. Chad loved this region’s rich musical heritage, which the festival aims to keep alive for current and future generations. The trail run benefit is a perfect fit with our festival’s mission.”
Wilkes County native Chad Lovette passed away on July 9, 2016, after an extended battle with brain cancer. Chad graduated from Wilkes Central High School and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He most enjoyed performing music with his band, Green House, and with his brother Shay. He played with Shay’s band, Brushy Rides, at the inaugural Carolina in the Fall Festival in 2015. Chad’s other passions included traveling far and wide, hiking, surfing, camping and living large with his family and friends. Chad’s parents, Rick and Beth Lovette will serve as the honorary Trail Run Official Starters.
The trail run is sponsored by Farm Alarm Systems, Inc. Other businesses interested in sponsoring the event should contact Michelle Isom at 336-990-0747.
