Hickory – The City of Hickory has so many individuals and teams that have done extraordinary things during this pandemic. Coworkers took on new responsibilities, handled a variety of unique situations every day, continued to protect the public with new requirements in place, adjusted daily workflows, shared communications and updates, and so much more. The Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism, Hickory Public Library, and Fire Departments adapted to the current situation by getting creative in offering alternative services to their customers, like Library To-Go and virtual programming.
Public Services crews worked diligently to collect increased tonnages of yard waste, garbage, recycling, and ensure all customers maintained vital water and sewer services. Both the Fire and Police Departments continued to be on the front lines of protecting the community. In the midst of the pandemic, staff worked every day to provide constant and essential City services. The entire City team worked together to ensure residents and visitors continued to receive the high level of service they have come to expect from the City of Hickory, as well as assisting the City’s partners, like The Chamber of Catawba County, the Hickory Metro Convention Center & Visitors Bureau, the Economic Development Corporation, and Catawba County in whatever ways possible during this crisis.
