Hickory – The Firemen’s Kitchen was at near capacity for the opening of EXIT PURSUED BY A BEAR last week at the Hickory Community Theatre. This dark, revenge comedy returns this weekend with performances on Friday and Saturday, May 5th and 6th at 7:30pm and Sunday, May 7th at 2:30pm in the Firemen’s Kitchen.
Written by Lauren Gunderson, and directed by Shawna Wilson, the show follows Nan, an abused wife who is ready to stand up to her alcoholic husband. Underneath the comedy, the play brings to light some of the impact of abuse in the household. Nan forces Kyle to watch as she and her friends, Simon and Sweetheart, reenact important moments throughout their marriage.
Given the subject matter of the play, HCT has partnered with The Women’s Resource Center to raise awareness and provide information about local resources.
Performances of EXIT PURSUED BY A BEAR continue May 5 through May 13 in the Firemen’s Kitchen. Tickets for all performances are $16 for adults and $10 for youth and students. For tickets visit hickorytheatre.org or call the box office at 828-328-2283, Wed.-Fri. from 12-5pm. The play is rated R for adult language and themes.
The HCT’s 74th season is sponsored by Paramount Automotive, Sunbelt Xpress and Frye Regional Medical Center. HCT is a funded affiliate of the United Arts Council of Catawba County. EXIT PURSUED BY A BEAR is produced by Ken Wilkinson and Allen Wood, III.
