Hickory – The public is invited to “Doing Democracy: A Public Seminar on Politics in America Today” on Tuesday, January 29, 6:30-8:00pm, at Drendel Auditorium on the SALT Block in Hickory, for an evening of information and inspiration.
A panel of published academics, regional and state civic leaders, and a local office-holder will be speaking about the state of our politics, focusing on civic discourse. Speakers include:
Dr. Marc Hetherington, Professor of Political Science at UNC-Chapel Hill
Dr. Katy Harriger, Professor of Politics and International Affairs at Wake Forest University
Ms. Ross Harris, Executive Director of the North Carolina Institute of Political Leadership
The Honorable Mr. Hank Guess, Mayor of Hickory
Event organizer and facilitator Mr. Aaron Kohrs, a local educator and advocate, will give a brief historical context of democratic discourse. Question-and-answer segment to follow talks.
Refreshments will be provided by Windy City Grill of Hickory.
The Greater Hickory Jaycees will be present at the event with civic volunteering resources. Hickory International Council is an event sponsor. All are welcome.
