Hickory, NC – Redhawk Publications is excited to announce two enriching writing workshops for the Spring 2025 term at Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC). These eight-week workshops, designed for creative minds of all levels, will meet for two hours, one evening each week, providing a welcoming space to develop writing skills under the guidance of expert instructors.

Both workshops are ideal for individuals seeking to expand their writing skills, engage with creative communities, and find inspiration in their work.

Creative Writing Workshop 

Instructor: Narya Deckard

This workshop, led by acclaimed poet and English instructor Narya Deckard, encourages participants to embrace creativity and explore the depths of their writing potential. Holding an MFA in Poetry and Narrative Medicine from Lenoir-Rhyne University, Deckard blends her expertise in storytelling with a passion for fostering creativity as a pathway to deeper self-connection.

“We all are meant to be more creative than the world tells us we can or should be,” Deckard shares. “Sometimes we need communities like a workshop to nourish our creativity or create a new perspective for our writing approach.”

The Creative Writing Workshop is open to writers of all experience levels. It offers opportunities to develop attention to the outer world and connect it to the writer’s inner world. Participants will also read and analyze craft to inspire their work, benefiting from a community of like-minded creatives.

Screenwriting and Film Adaptations Workshop

Charles Fox, a retired professor, poet, artist, and film scholar, will lead the Screenwriting and Film Adaptations Workshop. With an MFA in Creative Writing and a PhD in Film Studies, Fox brings over 25 years of teaching experience to this dynamic course.

The course will cover screenwriting basics, primarily focused on narrative structure and audience engagement,” Fox explains. “In other words, how to tell a story that an audience won’t forget.”

Participants will explore the art of adapting literature to the screen, engaging in a collaborative environment to share and critique work. Whether you’re just starting your screenplay or looking to refine your narrative, this workshop provides a creative and supportive space for growth.
