Hickory – The City of Hickory is pleased to announce the opening of its 2018 “Life. Well Crafted.” Photo Contest. Whether you are a professional photographer, hobbyist, or just a citizen that loves capturing moments and attractions that make Hickory such a special place, this contest is open to photographers of all ages. Contestants are encouraged to submit images that best depict “Life. Well Crafted.” in Hickory. Winning photos will be showcased on all City of Hickory social media and the City’s website, www.HickoryNC.gov.

The photo contest officially starts on Thursday, November 1, and all entries must be submitted by Sunday, November 18. Eligible entries will then be posted in a photo album on the City of Hickory’s Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/cityofhickory/, where the public will vote for entries by “liking” or reacting to the photos. Voting will conclude on Friday, November 30, at 4pm. Winners will be announced on Monday, December 3. First, second, and third place winners will receive a Hickory prize pack.

Photo Contest Guidelines: Image resolution: a minimum of 300 dpi (dots per inch) – Entrants must supply a high resolution image suitable for printing and web use.

Image size: 1600 x 1200 pixels or larger (BMP, PNG or JPG).

File size: no smaller than 1 MB and no larger than 15 MB. Photographs with any watermarks, writing, or symbols of any kind will be rejected.

All photographs should accurately reflect Hickory and avoid images of advertisement for businesses or organizations.

Please note that by entering the photo contest, entrants grant a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty free, perpetual license to the City of Hickory to edit, adapt, make derivative works from, broadcast, publish, and otherwise use any or all of the descriptions and/or photograph(s) submitted, and may use them for advertising, promotional and/or any other purpose in any and all media now or hereafter devised worldwide in perpetuity without additional compensation, notification or permission, or photo credit, unless prohibited by law. By entering this contest, entrants agree to have their submitted photograph(s) used and displayed, either singularly or in combination with others and in any size, on the City of Hickory’s website, social media, and print materials without any fee or other form of compensation due at any time. Credits, descriptions or titles, if any, used with the photograph(s) are in the City’s sole discretion. By submitting a photograph, the entrant signifies that he or she possesses all rights necessary to grant this permission for and in connection with the purpose of use. In the event that ownership of any photograph(s) submitted is challenged in any manner by any person, the City of Hickory may disqualify that photograph(s) and will discontinue use of the photograph(s).

How To Enter:

All images must be submitted via email to [email protected]. Please include your name, contact information, and a short caption of the subject matter. Digital images that are sent via mail or social media platforms will not be accepted.

You may enter an unlimited number of times, and by entering you indicate your unconditional agreement to, and acceptance of, these official rules and City of Hickory decisions, which are final and binding. Entrants may be asked to supplement their submission (such as sending the highest resolution version of their photo) anytime on or after November 1.
