Hickory – New Beginnings Hickory is co-hosting a FREE community event, Slangin’ Hope, with Jamie Torres Ministries on Saturday, April 26th from 11am-6pm.  From Slangin’ Dope to Slangin’ Hope, the ministry goes where hope is needed most – into communities burdened by poverty and addiction – to share God’s love, inspire change, and uplift lives. New Beginnings is located at 706 Main Ave SE, Hickory.

Jamie Torres Ministries mission is to bring hope, love, and the message of Christ to neighborhoods facing poverty, addiction and despair.  Led by Jamie Torres, a former drug dealer saved by God’s grace, this ministry is a testament to the power of redemption and the transformative love of Christ.

At their Main Ave location, whether known as the Flynn Home, Hope Valley, or now as New Beginnings, their mission has always been to help those recovering from alcoholism and drug abuse. Since 2021, they have provided a safe, structured, and therapeutic, 20 bed program for men in recovery needing to learn a new way to live and to transition back into the community.

New Beginnings mission is to promote hope, develop personal responsibility and cultivate independence by providing a structured sober living environment for men recovering from alcoholism and drug addiction.  Their programs are designed to teach, support and challenge their residents on their journey to a sober life.

The events starts at 11am and includes FREE hot dogs and hamburgers, face painting, a bouncy house, FREE haircuts, inspirational preaching, testimonies and music.  Fun!

“We are looking forward to serving the community with Jamie Torres Ministries.  Their desire to serve those in need is inspiring”.   Melissa Sheller, Executive Director, New Beginnings.
