Hickory, NC – Full Circle Arts is pleased to announce our Fall Competition for this year which will run from Oct. 17 through Nov. 23, and cordially invites the public to our opening reception of the exhibition showcasing the work some of the area’s most accomplished artists on Thursday, Oct. 17 from 6:00 to 8:00pm.
This exhibition is comprised of work submitted by many artists of both 3-D and 2-D work from the greater Hickory area and the 4 counties surrounding. We will be announcing the winners of the 3 cash awards totaling $600 of First, Second and Third places in the competition on the opening night’s reception Thursday, October 17th. Several Honorable Mentions will also be awarded as well and during the show viewers will be given the opportunity to vote for an artist’s work to receive the People’s Choice Award. Full Circle’s competitions have always had many entries and the quality of the work is high, so be prepared to see quite a few works by many exceptional artists.
Our judge and juror for this year’s fall show will be artist and teacher Gary Freeman. Perhaps you saw his work in the recent exhibition at The Hickory Museum of Art, “Blue Ridge Realists”. We are excited to have this talented artist to come to Full Circle’s gallery to bring his expertise into the judging of our show. Mr. Freeman was formerly a teacher at the art department at Gaston College and presently teaches at Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy. He has been a painter and printmaker for 30 years and is well known for his North Carolina landscapes.
We extend warm and gracious thanks to the sponsors for our Fall Competition this year, Carl and Sharon Cline, Resource Partners LLC and Dr. William F. Straka, DDS, PA.
In conjunction with our Fall Exhibition throughout October we will also be welcoming the Art and Ancestry Series of Kathryn Regel. Kathryn is a mixed media artist who lives and works in Hickory, North Carolina. A native of Wisconsin, she spent many years in Texas and South Carolina before finding her way to North Carolina. While in Texas, Kathryn earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art from the University of Texas at Dallas.
Kathryn works mainly in collage and uses a combination of photographs and acrylic paint to pay homage to her ancestors. Candid vintage photographs are brought to life with contrasting and harmonious landscapes, colors and bold compositions.
