Hickory – Join Patrick Beaver Memorial Library genealogist Peggy Mainess on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 7:00 pm for a workshop on techniques for finding female ancestors. Tracing a female ancestor can be daunting because it is a common practice for women to adopt their husband’s surname.
Other factors affecting the search are the role of women in society and how the legal system impacted the way their names appeared in official documents. This session will assist the family historian in understanding how the legal status of women can be applied to genealogical research. Looking for women ancestors requires an adjustment in how one reviews traditional record sources.
The Tracing Female Ancestors workshop will take place in the Carolina Room on the second floor at 7pm. The workshop is free, but space is limited so registration is required.
