Hickory – The Hickory Community Theatre has announced that Austin, TX-based theatre educator Meredith Swim will be coming to Hickory to lead the upcoming session of summer camps for youth. The session will run from July 12-23 and there are three different camps for ages 6–8, 9–13, and 13–17.
A beaming proud graduate of ColdTowne Theater’s improvisational comedy training in Austin, TX., Swim thrives in co-creating high-energy, narrative shows with the leading intention to trust her feet, have fun, and support her team. Her experience has led her to start an original troupe, Twisted Karma. She’s learned the most about improv from the children and teens she’s been lucky to applaud and teach through ColdTowne’s improv youth program, Excused Absence Comedy. Her background as a nonprofit professional and studies in human rights propels her to share the transformative power of comedy with seniors, refugees, youth, and late-night audiences. She’s dedicated to following the YES AND nudge as she continues to learn, perform and play.
She is excited to be coming to Hickory to share her knowledge and introduce a new generation to the fun of improv and sketch comedy.
There are three distinct camps for different age groups. “Mischief Makers” is an improvisational comedy camp for ages 6–8 and runs July 12–16 from 9 am to noon. “Seriously Funny” is an improvisational comedy camp for ages 9–13 and runs July 12–16 from 2 pm to 5 pm. “The Write to Be Funny” is a sketch comedy camp for ages 13–17 and runs July 19–23 from 2 pm to 5 pm.
Camps are $125 per camper and there is a $15 discount for additional campers from the same household.
