Hickory – Children from throughout the Unifour enjoyed participating in a number of dance and musical theatre camps offered by Hickory Ballet & Performing Arts (HBPA) this summer. They danced to Taylor Swift music commemorating her popular Era tour; provided performances of Annie Jr. for the community following two weeks of “Annie” camp; sang, danced, and played at a Kitty Dollhouse camp; and regularly dropped into the studio to hone their skills and technique in ballet.
As summer comes to a close and school and regular routines resume; however, HBPA is looking forward to the Fall season, which begins with an Open House at HBPA, 116 Third St., NW, in downtown Hickory, from 10:00 am to 12 noon on Saturday, August 24.
Students and their families will have an opportunity to tour the studio, meet the instructors, and register for classes in classical ballet, pointe, musical theatre, tap, jazz, hip hop, and acro. Dance shoes, tights, leotards, and HBPA swag will be available for purchase during the open house as well.
Along with scheduled classes, HBPA will offer performance opportunities throughout the year. The delightful musical We Are Monsters will be performed on the CommScope Stage in October, and HBPA’s favorite holiday ballet, The Nutcracker, will be produced at the Green Room in December. Spring’s musical theatre presentation of Alice in Wonderland Jr, is scheduled in March, in collaboration with Hickory Community Theatre, while the final production of the year, the ballet Cinderella, will take place in May.
HBPA participates in a variety of community outreach events throughout the year. Students can be found sharing music and dance in local schools and libraries, on Union Square, in the annual Hickory Christmas Parade, and more.
