Hickory – Hickory Community Theatre is proud to announce the launch of their new education program. The program will begin with fall classes, led by the new Education Director, Kelsey Kott.
Classes begin the week of September 9th, 2024 and run through the last week of October. All classes will be held at the Hickory Community Theatre, 30 3rd St NW, Hickory, NC 28601. The last day to register and pay for classes is Tuesday, September 3rd 2024. Classes require a minimum of seven students to run. HCT reserves the right to cancel any courses that do not meet the registration minimum. Kott is originally from the northwest suburbs of Chicago and has been teaching in the Metro-Carolina area since 2017. Kott earned her bachelor’s degree in Theatre Education from Illinois State University, as well as an endorsement in Secondary English Education. She taught Drama, English, and Speech at Indian Land High School, and sponsored the Drama Club and Poetry Out Loud team. In 2022, Kott transitioned to a role teaching remotely for Proximity Learning, Inc., an educational company that pairs teachers with understaffed Title I schools. During this time, Kott earned her master’s degree in Theatre Education from the University of Northern Colorado. She will be teaching each of the classes in the fall lineup.
Classes for young people include Public Speaking (ages 10-17), Intro to Theatre (ages 8-14) and Improvisation (ages 10-17.) Learning opportunities for adults (18 and over) include Public Speaking and Improvisation. Private lessons for adults are also offered upon request.
