Hickory – Macbitches, written by Sophie McIntosh, is a dramatic comedy and contemporary college drama that explores themes of ambition, female competition, and patriarchy within a university theatre department.
When a freshman unexpectedly lands the coveted role of Lady Macbeth, upperclassmen invite her over to “celebrate” her casting—and assert their dominance in the theatre department. As Fireball and Svedka flow, they confront their ambition and the power structures shaping their education. As the night spirals into violent and shocking acts of betrayal, they come to learn that “what’s done cannot be undone.”
Tickets are $18 for adults and $12 for youth and students. Due to adult language and content, the production is recommended for ages 18 and up. Tickets are available at hickorytheatre.org or by calling 828-328-2283.
Macbitches is produced by Pretty Chicken Productions, with additional support from an anonymous donor. Hickory Community Theatre is a funded affiliate of Arts Culture Catawba and receives sustaining support from the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
