Hickory – Only four performances remain in the run of the Hickory Community Theatre’s production of the hysterical comedy, Lend Me a Tenor. The final run starts Thursday night at 7:30, with a “goodie” giveaway for first timers at the Theatre.
The Thursday giveaway is called “Fan Club Thursdays.” The new promotion was set to kick off last week but the performance had to be cancelled due to the weather.
The play takes place on the biggest night in the history of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company. The world famous tenor Tito Morelli, “Il Stupendo,” is set to perform Otello, his greatest role, at the gala season opener. Saunders, the General Manager, hopes this will put Cleveland on the operatic map.
Through a hilarious series of mishaps Morelli is given a double dose of tranquilizers which mix with the booze he has consumed and he passes out. His pulse is so low that Saunders and his assistant Max believe he is dead. Max is an aspiring singer and Saunders persuades him to get into Morelli’s Otello costume and try to fool the audience into thinking he’s the operatic superstar. Max succeeds admirably, but Morelli comes to and gets into his other costume. Now two Otellos are running around in costume and two women are running around in lingerie, each thinking she is with Il Stupendo! A sensation on Broadway and in London’s West End, Lend Me a Tenor is a crowd pleaser and audience favorite around the world.
Performances of Lend Me a Tenor this weekend are Thursday at 7:30pm, Friday and Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 2:30pm.
On Thursday night all adults and seniors are $14 and youth/students are $10. For all other performances adult tickets are $18, seniors are $16 and students or youth 18 & under are $10. Tickets are now on sale online at www.hickorytheatre.org or through the Theatre box office, in person or by phone at 828-328-2283. Box office hours are 12-5 Wednesday through Friday.
