Hickory – The Hickory Community Theatre has been named as the recipient of the 2023 Community Theatre Award by the North Carolina Theatre Conference (NCTC), a state-wide organization representing over 200 theatre companies and theatrical professionals in NC.
The NCTC Community Theatre Award is presented to a community theatre company in North Carolina that has demonstrated artistic excellence and community leadership.
Each year, the NCTC Board of Directors presents the NCTC Awards to companies, schools and individuals that have exhibited leadership roles in their community, as well as artistic, professional, or educational excellence. The Board of Directors is a group of statewide volunteers who represent the theatre industry and serve on behalf of some of the state’s most prominent organizations and schools.
Regarding why HCT was chosen, NCTC Executive Director Angie Hays said, “Hickory Community Theatre is celebrating their 75th anniversary. They are a treasured institution in the statewide theatre industry, and a valued NCTC member. We’re pleased to honor their incredible production work, outstanding education programs, and dedicated service to their community. Like all theatre companies, Hickory Community Theatre faced many challenges during the pandemic, but despite these hurdles, the company has continued to successfully serve its mission of producing live theatre that entertains, enlightens, inspires, and unites the community. The NCTC Board of Directors is proud to honor Hickory Community Theatre with this award.”
A formal presentation of the award will be made at 7:30pm on January 19th at the Hickory Community Theatre, prior to the opening performance of RIDE THE CYCLONE. Members of the public are invited to attend.
