Hiddenite, NC – The Hiddenite Arts & Heritage Center’s 38th Annual Hiddenite Celebration of the Arts is a free admission, one of a kind arts and cultural heritage street festival, held Saturday, September 28, 2019 on Hiddenite Church Road in Alexander County from 9am – 4pm. The event features family friendly activities for all ages.

In conjunction with their 38th Annual Hiddenite Celebration of the Arts festival, the Hiddenite Arts & Heritage Center will hold their annual Celebration Senior Adult Day Luncheon on Tuesday, September 24. The luncheon will feature entertainment by classical pianist, Joyce O’Neal.

This fun, energetic program will be held at the Center’s Educational Complex (70 Hiddenite Church Road) starting at 10:00am and will feature a delicious lunch, entertainment, and fellowship.

Cost for attending is only $8.50 per person with tax included. Reservations for this event are required and may be made by calling (828) 632-6966. Guests of all ages are welcome and encouraged to attend this special program honoring senior adults.

After the luncheon, guests are encouraged to visit the Hiddenite Arts & Heritage Center’s Lucas Mansion (316 Hiddenite Church Road) to view their gallery exhibit, “Notes From A Life,” by Karen Parker. Guests may also tour the Center’s turn of the 20th Century museum and enjoy their exhibited collections of antique dolls, toys, gems, and minerals.

Lucas Mansion Gallery exhibits and collections are self-guided and are admission free. Guided tours of the first floor museum are $4.00 each for adults and $3.00 each for senior adults.

The festival will feature a number of activities in partnership with Appalachian State University (App State). This is made possible through the Sharpe Chair of Fine and Applied Arts funding established by the Center’s founders, R. Y. and Eileen Lackey Sharpe.

Appalachian Young People’s Theatre (AYPT) – How Things Happen in Three! directed by Joseph Perdue.

These FREE performances will be held on the Baptist Church Stage during the festival, beginning at 10:00am and again at 2:30pm.

Some of our all-time favorite stories are dramatized in this family-friendly, fast-paced comedy. The company bursts onto the stage in a chorus of “Funny, isn’t It? How Things Happen in Three?” Through lively story-telling, the actors play many roles as they trace the recurring “three” through nursery rhymes and poetry. The Three Billy Goats Gruff dispose of the ugly troll, and Goldilocks’ curiosity leads her to the house of the Three Bears. Other tales of three include: The Fisherman and His Wife, The Three Wishes and The Evergreen Who Wises for Leaves. There is high-spirited audience participation and lots of fun for audiences of all ages in this production.

Steely Pan Steel Drum Band will return to Celebration of the Arts with a FREE 12:00noon performance on the Baptist Church Stage.

Geobago: App State’s Geobago is a mobile geology wagon that will offer make and take activities throughout the festival. The Geobago will be located on Hiddenite Church Road across from the Baptist Church Stage.

Pottery for Kids: Located in the Folklife Pavilion, App State students will instruct kids in throwing pottery on the wheel. This hands-on activity will be under the Folklife tent in the ball field area.

Cherished Women is an children’s art project presented by the Turchin Center of App State, located in the Art in Action area on the Lucas Mansion lawn. In this FREE activity, participants will make a take away card expressing appreciation to someone that has made an impact on their life.

Tin Type Photography: Located in the Art in Action area inside the gazebo on the lawn of the Lucas Mansion, App State faculty member, Josh White, will offer visitors the opportunity to sit for a tin type photo at a cost of $20. The fee will benefit the Center and the App State Photography Club.

Fashion Expo: Located inside the Center’s Educational Complex, App State and Alexander Central High School Fashion Classes will present a FREE fashion expo throughout the day.
