Hickory – Hickory Music Factory Hickory announces two new ensembles/classes starting this March.
Rock Club
The Hickory Music Factory “Rock Club” is a semester long band/class that meets weekly on Tuesday nights from 6:30-7:30pm. The class will focus on the study of Rock music, how to improvise, music theory, and playing together in a band. The band/class is for intermediate to advanced students ages 13-19. Students will be expected to be able to sight read music and have a basic understanding of chord theory. The class is free to HMF students and $40 to non-students. Space is limited. Tony Eltora is the instructor. For more info or to sign up for the class, email [email protected].
Factory String Band
Experience the fulfillment of group music making and the living tradition of fiddle tune sharing with The Factory String Band. This 10-week ensemble will incorporate and develop a manageable repertoire of Appalachian, Scots-Irish and Scandinavian fiddle tunes. Participants will be expected to prepare for rehearsal with advance access to an online folder of written and recorded tunes.
The ensemble will be led by Liam Bailey and will cover a direct set of stylistically diverse fiddle music, while discussing different approaches to accompaniment, feel, balance and ornamentation. In The Factory String Band, the joy and abandon of group music making will be priority.
This ensemble will take place on Thursday nights from 6-7pm at the Hickory Music Factory and is opened to the public. This class is suitable for some beginners and all intermediate players of any age. Cost for the ensemble is free to current HMF students. If you are not a current HMF student but would like to participate, there is a $40 registration fee. Appropriate instrumentation will include but will not be limited to, fiddle, flute, whistle, guitar, banjo, mandolin and acoustic bass.
