Newton, NC – Ever wondered how to start composting? Find out at this year’s Compost Day Celebration, which will be held May 29 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the community garden at the Catawba County Main Library in Newton.
The event will feature a live composting demonstration, helpful information about starting and maintaining a composting practice, and special activities for kids.
“Composting is the most practical and convenient way to manage yard and food waste,” said Amanda Kain, Catawba County’s waste reduction coordinator and educator. “Compost improves topsoil and helps return organic matter to the soil in nutrient form. Enriched soils enhance the health of plants, and healthy plants help clean the air and conserve the land. This all works together to make communities a healthier place to live.”
For more information or to register for the event, call (828) 465-8240. Registration is required, and there is no cost to participate. The first 25 people who register will receive a new backyard compost bin valued at $100 (limit one bin per registration).
