Hickory – Hickory Landmarks Society is sponsoring “Leaving a Legacy” on Saturday, July 27 from 10 am to 12 noon in the Community Room at Patrick Beaver Library. The mission of Hickory Landmarks Society is to serve the Hickory region by leading in the protection of historically or architecturally significant neighborhoods, individual landmarks and traditions. This includes the family stories of those who lived in these wonderful buildings.

Professional genealogist Rhonda Roederer from Heritage With Heart, will present “Preserving Your Family Stories” which will help attendees explore the difference between genealogy and family history. Learn how to uncover captivating stories using free, easily accessible resources. Every family has fascinating tales waiting to be discovered. Rebecca Shamblin, author of multiple family history books, has presented seminars to groups across the country, helping to make genealogy and authorship accessible to everyone. In “Turn Your Family Tree Into A Family Book” she will break down the process of turning your research into a book. She will talk about what to include, how to organize your book, how to get it printed, and finally how to share it. Our presenters will help you recognize the value of YOUR ancestors’ story and see how achievable a family history book really is.

This event is free and open to the public. Registration is requested at [email protected] or (828) 322-4731. Hickory Landmarks Society is a funded affiliate of Arts Culture Catawba.
