Hickory – Celebrate Summer Learning with Hickory Public Library! Throughout July, both branches of Hickory Public Library will host a variety of opportunities for teens to craft, dance, and play through its Summer Learning program.

Dance Camp: Contemporary
Thursday | July 5, 12, 19 | 2:45-3:30 p.m.
Through fun, modern music and dance exercises, students in this mini-series will learn about the language of dance and how to express different emotions and ideas with movement. Join us for one or all classes! Dance experience is welcome, but not necessary.

Mini Drones
Saturday | July 10 | 2 p.m.
Learn all about drones! One half of this program will be learning how drones work as you wire your own motorized popsicle stick drone. In the next half, fly a mini drone through an obstacle course! Learn the basics of flying a drone, flight safety, drone physics, and more! Registration is required and will open three weeks before the event. Hickory Public Library card is required to register. Point of View: Teen Writing Club
Monday | July 10 | 5 p.m.
Teen writers of all levels from experienced to brand new are invited to our teen writing club! Come do writing challenges, share writing tips, play storytelling games, and more! (Sharing your work is optional but welcome). Join us this summer as we start creating our very first zine full of writing and art from people in the community ages 13-19.
Meets the second Monday of each month. No registration is required for this event.

T-Shirt Yarn Macramé

Trying to find something to do with those old t-shirts? Together we will learn how to make T-shirt yarn. After your yarn is made learn macramé basics to make a planter, bottle holder, crystal holder, or pantry bag. Thrifted T-shirts provided. Registration is required and will open 3 weeks in advance. Teen Tech Take Apart
Thursday | July 27 | 5-7 p.m.
City of Hickory IT staff will teach you about the inner workings of computers as you deconstruct laptops and other devices. Then use the disassembled pieces to create funky tech artwork. Registration is required and will open three weeks before the event. Hickory Public Library card is required to register. Ages 12 and up.

Wreck-This Journal DIY
Friday | July 28 | 3 p.m.
Design a journal then take out your stress on it. Join us during mental health week to paint, draw, scribble, write, tear, and cut your way through a Wreck-This journal.
