Millington, TN – Sailors help maintain America’s advantage at sea. This means they do not always get to celebrate holidays with their loved ones. A Hickory, North Carolina, native serving in the United States Navy will celebrate the holidays with their fellow sailors aboard USS Harry S. Truman.
“The holidays mean spending time with family and really counting your blessings,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Vincent Argiro. “Families can’t afford to have a lot of things that seem normal to us during this time. A special memory, is decorating the Christmas tree with my family and baking Christmas cookies.”
Argiro wants family back home to know they are missed this holiday season.
“I would like to say Merry Christmas and to enjoy the time you have,” said Argiro. “I love my family and friends, and their encourage and support helps push me through times like these.”
As a member of the U.S. Navy, Argiro, as well as other sailors, know they are a part of a tradition providing unforgettable experiences through leadership development, world affairs and humanitarian assistance.
“Serving in the Navy means sacrifice,” added Argiro. “I never would have imagined that I’d be deployed two times in a row during Christmas, and here I am. It’s been the biggest sacrifice I’ve ever made and also the best for this great nation. We must keep going.”
