Hickory – London based writers Ann-Marie Fyfe and Cahal Dallat are spending the spring semester on Lenoir-Rhyne’s Hickory campus as part of the University’s Visiting Writer in Residence program. While on campus, they will teach creative-writing and host weekly poetry workshops.
Fyfe and Dallat will also share a joint poetry reading on Thursday, Feb. 28, as part of the 30th anniversary season of LR’s Visiting Writers Series. Both writers regularly teach workshops and classes at London’s leading live literature venue, the Troubadour Coffee-House.
Fyfe and Dallat also help organize Ireland’s annual John Hewitt Summer School, which offers opportunities to explore issues of difference and identity through literature and creative writing for individuals across Northern Ireland.
Fyfe is a poet, arts organizer, creative writing teacher, and former chair of Britain’s Poetry Society. Her fifth and latest poetry collection is titled “House of Small Absences.” She has also recently completed “The Voyage Out,” an 18-month teaching, writing, and performing tour funded by the Arts Council England. Her memoir/travel-journal of the tour, which explored coastal regions and communities in Britain, Ireland, United States, and Canada, will be published this year.
Dallat is a poet, musician, critic, regular BBC Radio 4 Saturday Review contributor since 1998, occasional reviewer for The Times Literary Supplement and The Guardian among other publications, and founder/organizer of the William Butler Yeats Bedford Park Artwork Project. He is a former winner of Ireland’s leading poetry prize, the Strokestown International, and his recent awards include the 2017 Keats-Shelley Poetry Prize and 2018 Harry Ransom Center Research Fellowship at the University of Texas in Austin. His latest poetry collection is titled “The Year of Not Dancing.”
