I shared some thoughts last week concerning the ongoing March Madness Tournament. A number of my predictions have come true as we head into Sweet 16 play tonight (Thursday).

The major upset was Arkansas beating a number-two seed St. Johns. Derek Queen gave us a buzzer-beater in the Maryland victory over Colorado State. It was thought that North Carolina did not belong in the tourney but the Heels responded with a victory before being eliminated. I thought the SEC would not be as strong as everyone thought. The conference began with 14 teams in the Madness but are now down to seven schools after the first two rounds. I had a feeling two-time defending champion UConn, along with perennial power Kansas, would not make the Sweet 16. They are both gone. Gonzaga, as I predicted, has also been eliminated.

March Madness Review

I got a few more thoughts for you this week. I still do not think a SEC school will win the title. My final thought for this week is that Houston will win the national championship.

Play Ball

With a high majority of the sports world focusing on basketball, the start of major league baseball has snuck up on us.

There are two primary approaches worth taking to preseason World Series picks. You can either go with the best team on paper, or you look for chaos by choosing a couple viable dark horse teams.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have the best roster in baseball and are heavy favorites to repeat as World Series champs. Again, you can go chalk and pick the Dodgers or you root for chaos.

If chaos ensues and I think it will, look out for the Philadelphia Phillies or the Texas Rangers to make a run. The Phillies have a nice roster featuring hitting and pitching. If their pitching gets hot in October, they could beat the Dodgers.
