Hickory – Come experience the world of competitive air guitar when the Hickory Community Theatre presents the rocking comedy AIRNESS by Chelsea Marcantel. Performances will be May 3-18 in the Firemen’s Kitchen at the Hickory Community Theatre.
When Nina enters her first air guitar competition, she thinks winning will be easy. But as she befriends a group of charismatic nerds all committed to becoming the next champion, she discovers that there’s more to this art form than playing pretend; it’s about finding yourself in your favorite songs, and performing with raw joy. Will Nina be able to let go and set herself free onstage? Following her mission to shred or be shredded, AIRNESS is an exuberant reminder that everything we need to rock is already inside us. A comedy about competition, completion, and finding the “airness” inside yourself.
The cast of talented local actors bringing AIRNESS to life are Holli Armstrong as Cannibal Queen, Annalee Greene as The Announcer, Angel Rojas as Golden Thunder, Bethany Spears as Nina, Alec Van Owen as D. Vicious, Cleve Williams as Facebender and Reed Williams as Shreddy Eddy.
Performances of AIRNESS will be May 3-18, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm, Sundays at 2:30pm and Thursday, May 16 at 7:30pm. Tickets are $16 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets may be purchased online at hickorytheatre.org or by phone at 828-328-2283.
AIRNESS is rated R, because of strong adult language and situations.
