Hickory – THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG, opening on March 17 at the Hickory Community Theatre, is a comedy about an amateur British drama company attempting to stage a murder mystery. What ensues is a laugh-out-loud farce that is a hilarious hybrid of Monty Python and Sherlock Holmes. The set is barely holding together before the play begins and Annie, the stage manager, is frantically trying to make repairs. In the HCT production, the role of Annie is being played by newcomer Kristin Gibson.
Although THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG is Gibson’s first outing at HCT, it is not her first time on stage. All told, she has had a hand in over 15 productions in the Hudson/Lenoir area. Her favorite roles have been Chava in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, Margo Frank in THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK, Margo Crawford in BRIGHT STAR and Sherlock Holmes in SHERLOCK HOLMES. A lifelong resident of Hudson, NC, she holds an Associate of Applied Sciences degree as an American Sign Language Interpreter. In her spare time she enjoys knitting and watching old movies.
When asked about auditioning for THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG, Gibson replied, “I’ve seen it twice and I think it’s just such a fun show. My favorite things about Hickory Community Theatre are the variety of the shows and the professional level of the performances.
Performances of THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG are March 17 through April 1 in the Jeffers Theatre. Tickets for all performances are $16 for adults and $10 for youth and students. For tickets visit hickorytheatre.org or call the box office at 828-328-2283.
The HCT’s 74th season is sponsored by Paramount Automotive, Sunbelt Xpress and Frye Regional Medical Center. HCT is a funded affiliate of the United Arts Council of Catawba County. THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG is being produced by CommScope and Green Park Dentistry.
