Newton – The Newton Forum Committee is sponsoring Candidates Forums for the upcoming city election on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. The forums will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2023 and Saturday, October 14, 2023 in the Community Meeting Room at the Catawba County Library in downtown Newton. Early voting begins on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at the same site.
These forums will be educational, informative and non-partisan. They are not designed to promote any particular candidates or agendas. All city of Newton voters and other interested persons are invited to attend.
The forums will begin with three-minute opening statements for each candidate. Next, audience members will be invited to directly question the candidates. Each question is limited to one minute. Candidates’ answers are limited to two minutes. The forums will conclude with two-minute closing statements from each candidate.
The forum on October 7th will feature the candidates for the three at-large seats on the Newton City Council. Candidates include Beverly Danner, Jody Dixon, Matthew Farley, Carmen Isenhower, Royce Kincaid, Jon McClure, Bill Powell, Luther Ray, Tom Rowe, Sherry Sigmon and David White.
The forum on October 14th will feature the candidates for mayor of Newton. Candidates include Jeff Allen, Eddie Haupt and Jerry Hodge.
