Hickory – You are invited to participate in our upcoming Pinwheels for Prevention/Vigil to Remember Ceremony. It will be on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at noon at the Zahra Baker All Children’s Playground in Kiwanis Park. The park is located at 805 6th Street SE, Hickory, NC. The ceremony will begin at noon and last about an hour.
We will have one of the largest Pinwheel Gardens in North Carolina with 2000 pinwheels planted at the playground. These are available for purchase, and we encourage you to buy some and take them back to plant at your home or office. They are $2 each.
The Vigil portion of the ceremony will remember all the children in North Carolina who died in 2016 as a result of abuse and/or neglect at the hands of a parent or caregiver. Teresa Bentley’s art students at Hickory High School have hand painted an age appropriate t-shirt for each child. These will be hung up on a clothes line as each name is read and the bell rings. This should be a very meaningful ceremony that will include an original piece of music written just for this event by Peter Corneliussen called “Rescue Me.” It will be performed by Peter and sung by Caroline Collins.
