Hickory, NC – Redhawk Publications is pleased to announce the launch of “The Heart of Poetry,” an anthology crafted by the talented students and faculty of Hickory Career & Arts Magnet High School (HCAM) in Hickory, North Carolina. Spearheaded by faculty member Chris Nelson, this collaborative project marks HCAM’s maiden venture into the world of publishing, promising an exploration of creativity and compassion.

Reflecting on the project’s inception, Chris Nelson shares, “This is HCAM’s first-ever publication, though we hope it won’t be our last! The creation of this book can best be described as a wonderful whirlwind of creation and collaboration between students, their teachers, and poets from a host of traditions.”

“The Heart of Poetry” is not just a collection of verses; it is a vibrant tapestry interwoven with visual art, thought-provoking essays, and even a recipe, all converging to celebrate the virtue of compassion. This central theme resonates profoundly throughout the anthology, prompting a partnership with The Art of Compassion, a community initiative dedicated to fostering kindness and love through Education, Arts, and Entertainment.

Dr. Rand Brandes, Professor Emeritus at Lenoir Rhyne University and spokesperson for The Art of Compassion, enthusiastically remarked, “The Art of Compassion is honored to sponsor HCAM’s ‘The Heart of Poetry.’ The work of these HCAM students and teachers embody the best of what our public educational system offers—the exploration of ideas, strengths, fears, and triumphs through the revelatory power of the arts.”

“The Heart of Poetry” serves as an invitation to all poetry enthusiasts and advocates of compassion alike. It is a literary journey and a testament to the profound wisdom and creativity inherent in today’s youth. Readers will discover a renewed hope and admiration for the next generation through its pages.

Moreover, every purchase of “The Heart of Poetry” contributes to the educational mission of Hickory Career & Arts Magnet High School, ensuring the continuation of its commitment to excellence in arts education.

Join us in celebrating the launch of “The Heart of Poetry,” where words converge to inspire, uplift, and ignite the flame of compassion within us all. The official book launch will be held Sunday, May 19 at 2 pm at the Fanjoy Labrenz Studio, 215 1st Ave SW, Hickory, NC 28602.
