Roots To Rock, A Timeline Of African American Music, Feb. 2Hickory – “Roots To Rock”, A Timeline Of African American Music, will be a FREE concert presented by Hickory Music Factory educators to Catawba and Caldwell County’s K-12 underserved populations along with the general public in celebration of Black History Month.

The concert will demonstrate how African and African-American musicians have influenced contemporary and popular music as we know it – from early African music to work songs, minstrel, dixieland, blues, gospel, and R&B to jazz and rock n roll! This educational performance will represent a musical timeline, demonstrating styles and history relevant to the effect of the African diaspora on modern music.

The “Roots To Rock” program will take place at the Broyhill Civic Center, in Lenoir, NC on Thursday, Feb. 1 and Drendel Auditorium at the SALT Block in Hickory, NC on Friday, February 2. Both performances will begin at 7pm.
