Newton, NC – The Green Room Community Theatre is ready to take you to Fleet Street in London as they present “Sweeney Todd.” There are just three more performances in the McCreary Theatre at the Old Post Office Playhouse in historic downtown Newton, NC.
Set against the backdrop of industrial age London, we come to “Attend the Tale” of falsely imprisoned barber and his plan to exact revenge on the judge who locked him away. With the help of his devilishly resourceful and creative landlord, Mrs. Dot Lovett, Sweeny Todd unleashes his vengeance upon the entire city. This Tony Award-winning masterpiece is sure to both thrill and delight audiences.
“Sweeney Todd” is a musical thriller based on the 1973 play Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street by Christopher Bond. In 1979, a musical adaptation of Bond’s play by Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler opened on Broadway. It originally starred Len Cariou as Sweeney Todd and Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Lovett. It won the Tony Award for Best Musical and Olivier Award for Best New Musical.
“Sweeney Todd” is produced by Robert Abbey, Inc. & Cargo Transporters. It is directed by David Townsend with musical direction by Amanda Pauley.
Performance dates are September 22, 23 and 24, 2017. Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30 pm, and Sunday matinees are at 3:00 pm. This show is rated PG-13 due to some violence and slight language. There is NO blood in this production. All effects are using lighting only.
