Hickory – Friday, September 13, the City of Hickory’s Sails Original Music Series will feature Sierra Ferrell with special guest Nate Leath of Bethlehem, N.C.
Self-described as a “jingle-janglin gypsy tornado of sound hailing from Charleston, West Virginia,” Sierra Ferrell is highly admired for her emotional lyrics and nostalgic vocals. Her unique voice immediately captivates audiences; while her tales of star-crossed love, suffering, and triumph of the human spirit keep you enthralled.
Ferrell just announced that she was signed to Rounder Records in the past few weeks and is very excited about that opportunity! For the Sails event, Ferrell and her band will be joined by local fiddle prodigy Nate Leath, who made a name for himself in the North Carolina bluegrass fiddle circuit before going on to attend the Berklee College of Music. His ability to meld traditional bluegrass with innovative instrumentals has earned him a reputation as one of the most creative fiddlers of any genre.
“The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of Ferrell’s musical is ‘old school jukebox country,’” says Sails Music Coordinator Bob Sinclair. “Ferrell has a throwback country sound that everyone is going to get very excited about. She is terrific talent and Hickory is fortunate to have this rising star grace the Sails Stage. This is one you should not miss!”
The Sails Original Music Series presents live original music under The Sails on the Square in Downtown Hickory every Friday evening in September, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Olde Hickory Brewery and Silver Fork Winery will sell beer and wine in designated areas, and there are a variety of close-by restaurants to patronize.
“With the opening of the newly renovated Union Square, last Friday, the kick-off event was packed and a fun time for everyone who came,” said Dana Kaminske, City of Hickory’s Communications and Marketing Manager. “If you haven’t been to an event yet, definitely put Friday nights in September on your calendar to attend the Sails Original Music Series. You will become a regular attendee!”
Following Ferrell, the series will feature nationally-renowned bluesman Mac Arnold and Plate Full O’ Blues on September 20 and R&B/funk band Moves on September 27.
